The Calanques, the emblematic landscape of 400,000 acres, occupying land and sea in France’s Mediterranean Provence is known and recognized worldwide for its spectacular landscapes, its remarkable biodiversity and its cultural heritage.
In April 2012, the site became the Calanques National Park. It is exceptional in Europe, as it is deeply rooted in Marseille, France’s second largest city and stretches along the coast to Cassis. Thus, it is subjected to a wide range of urban pressures. We will investigate and measure the various balances that must be established so the transmission of this natural treasure is guaranteed.
