This concert by the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse puts percussion firmly to the fore with a program bringing together 20th century masterpieces and a French new commission.
Conducted by Tugan Sokhiev, the orchestra performs the “Passacaille in D minor”, composed in 1908 by the Viennese Webern, followed by Prokofiev’s Symphony no 7 in C-sharp minor.
The prodigious British percussionist, Colin Currie, deeply committed to the development of a new percussion repertoire, had already performed a work by MacmMillan with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse in 2000. He now joins the orchestra for the Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra no 2, co-commissioned by the ONCT from the same composer.
