Embark on a scientific mission to discover abyssal life!
There's no light, the pressure is extreme and temperatures are close to freezing.
But that's not enough to stop life!
For 45 days, aboard the vessel Le Pourquoi pas ! and the famous yellow submarine, Le Nautile, scientists will be making a host of discoveries.
Such as the ecosystems of the abysses, where 80% of marine biomass is thought to be found, and their major role in determining our planet's climate.
This mission will also reveal a hypothesis that could prove crucial for our planet: the abysses play a key role in the carbon cycle.
They represent one of the most important carbon sinks.
The stakes are therefore high, yet this pristine environment is already on borrowed time.
Near the extinct hydrothermal springs lie millions of tonnes of metals and minerals, attracting the interest of industry.
Oceanographic campaigns are multiplying, and scientists over the world are mobilizing to understand and protect these singular environments from our frenetic consumption.
