On the Norwegian islands of Svalbard, close to the North Pole, all nationalities are welcome and immigration is free. But this icy Noah’s Ark has very particular living conditions: winter is one long night lasting four months with temperatures approaching -50° C, there is neither maternity ward nor cemetery, and polar bears are a day-to-day threat forcing inhabitants to go armed with a weapon.
