Bocuse and Cosmos are not from Lakka. They came here in the 1980s to earn a living in the tourist industry. They worked at Club Med, among others. The Club closed in 1992 because of the war. Lakka fell prey to rebels. There was no more trade. The two men fished to survive. At the end of the war, Bocuse and Cosmos decided to make the most of the knowledge they had built up at Club Med and set up a straw-hut bar on the beach. It was a roaring success thanks to the presence of 17,000 Blue Berets based in Freetown, about 20 km away. They became influential people in the village and even financed the campaign of the future mayor of Lakka. Today they also sponsor the local football team.
