There are places on our planet where roads stop, where trains cannot run, where boats cannot dock. Welcome to the Vanuatu Archipelago, the mountains of southern New Zealand or the most remote areas of Papua New Guinea.
Air travel is often the only means of transportation. Its role is crucial: it allows residents to feel less isolated. Flying in these territories at the end of the world involves risks. Pilots take off and land on makeshift runways. They fly without the help of the control tower, like the aviation pioneers once did. These pilots are ambulance drivers, farmers, delivery drivers. They transport all kinds of goods necessary for the survival of these communities and in case of emergency, they are the only ones on whom the sick and their families can count.
