They were born and raised in the “ghetto”, but are being educated in a prestigious private school right in the centre of the city. Every morning, twenty-five aborigines and Torres Strait Islander children head for the roof of St. Andrew’s Cathedral in the heart of Sydney, where their new “Gawura” school has finally found a home. Gawura is an isolated class for indigenous children between 5 and 11. They work among their friends and relatives in a cultural environment designed for them and separated from the rest of the school.
