For the past 18 years, French fishing guide Grégory Fromentin has been welcoming his compatriots in search of carnivorous fish and a change of scenery to the lakes of Extremadura in south-west Spain. Black bass and pike have long been the main fish for which this region, one of the most popular fishing destinations in southern Europe, is renowned. Then, underwater, the pike-perch appeared. Discreetly at first, gradually colonizing the lakes further upstream, to finally become the master of the place.
