The Pointe de la Parata, to the northwest of Ajaccio, is one of the most visited sites in Corsica: a million visitors a year! The peninsula ends in splendour with a chain of islands: the famous Bloody Islands, which turn red in the rising sun.
Ajaccio’s position, huddled within its bay, guarantees it mild temperatures all year round. A mildness that is especially conducive to the palm trees that are the pride of the town. Further south, on the heights of the Porticcio peninsula, the Genoese tower of the Isolella offers a view over the beach at Verghia. 500 metres of sparkling sand, dotted with pines that they call the silver beach.
Further south and still hotter, on the Castagna peninsula, the sun beats down. One understands why Corsica is blooming with whole fields of photoelectric panels turning the sun into electricity. Moving inland, nearer to Sartène, the mercury shoots up. Perched on its rocky peak, the ancient fortress deserves its title of the most Corsican of Corsican towns. And even higher, like an army turned to stone, the Bavella Needles are, they say, the most beautiful in Corsica.
