The most distinguishing feature of the major fishing port of the Mediterranean is its situation between two waters: on one side the sea, on the other the Thau lake. Just as curious is that Sète is as flat as your hand, with the exception of the Mont-Saint-Clair, which offers locals an unrivalled view over the coastline.
On the shores of the Thau lake, the oyster beds of Bouzigues stretch away. And blue blazes! The oyster producers don’t do it like anybody else. You’ll realise that during an encounter on the oyster beds.
Come on now! Things aren’t quite normal around Sète either. Cap d’Agde, Gruissan, la Grande Motte, amongst others. These towns have one thing in common: they were built during the 60s as part of the “mission racine”the root mission: a policy of major construction intended to democratise holidays at the seaside. But fate is fickle and the results are worthy of an alien! Amidst these modern towns, Sète escaped the fallout. Life here seems to flow like a quiet river. Every year, on the canals that crisscross the town, we have the battle of the jousters, who are part of Sète, as was Georges Brassens…
