The Gambier Islands were evangelized in 1834, by the Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts of Picpus … It seems that the “Sacred Hearts” have been emulated to this present day.

We will indeed go and meet three of Rikitea’s inhabitants, who with their big hearts transcend the everyday life of remote islanders, to create activities, jobs, solidarity, and all in all happiness.

It is this “extra touch of soul” that our camera will try to grasp in the three protagonists of this film, whether it be on their pearl farm, where they try hard to make both their clients and workers happy; in the mountains, where they feverishly plant thousands of mandarin, grapefruit or lychee trees, for pleasure, for nature, and for others; in their bee-hives, where they respect and worship bees, where they harvest the “gold from their bodies”, honey; at the Rikitea Cathedral, where they direct the children’s and adult’s choir with a mesmerizing fervor; at school, where they teach how to engrave mother-of-pearl to the children of Polynesia to put gold in their hands; in their guest house, where they wish to ardently pass on their love for the island and their pride to be Mangarevians to the visiting tourists.

This film attempts to dive into the Mangarevian soul, through three “sacred Mangarevian hearts”.
