The Tuamotus archipelago in Polynesia is the world of atolls. 84 low-lying islands, circles and crowns of coral in the heart of the Pacific to the north of Tahiti.
In the Tuamotus an archipelago that extends over nearly 20,000 km2 the biggest atoll is called Rangiroa, which means "big sky" in Tahitian.
Beyond Rangiroa, tiny islands populated sometimes by a few dozen inhabitants stretch into the distance. Apataki, Kaukura, Niau. 500 inhabitants here, a 100 there, somewhere else a few dozen, scattered across this space where the sea provides all.
